Dietmar Kainrath – „Canrath“
Dietmar Kainrath
Dietmar Kainrath was born on 8.9.1942, in Innsbruck. He attended the School of Arts and Crafts, and then spent several years travelling throughout Europe.
Initially he worked as a freelance commercial artist, but it was not until the late 1970s that he turned his passion, caricature, into his main occupation.
The Innsbruck artist has become famous for numerous exhibitions in Austria, Germany and the USA. The freelance caricaturist's first exhibition in 1979 was on the subject of alcohol.
His cartoons on the subjects of the Tyrol, the law, politics, addiction and sport appear in some national and international publications. His most recent activities are among his most exciting – he's the cartoonist for Red Bulletin.
Kainrath feels that "The bull is a rewarding beast" and associates this with the hard-wearing can shape. His global stories about the world of Red Bull are totally without lines. Ink pens, a fine brush and sparing use of watercolours are typical of his particular drawing style.
As a critical social observer, with simple overall control Dietmar Kainrath spotlights what many do not want to, or can't see. This is always combined with the kind of underlying, but never cutting humour, which makes you laugh even when you're the butt of the joke.
Herbert Völker writes: “It's all there – from aimless nonsense to sketches of a very relaxed Existentialism, from barfly troubles to Grand Prix folklore. Kainrath is so generous, he leaves us happy readers with the supremely easy interpretation."
