Snapshots are followed by quiet moments:
Telemark in Hangar-7
28 months after his first exhibition, "Snapshot", ski jumper Gregor Schlierenzauer is presenting his most recent insights into his view of the world. This time, Hangar-7 at Salzburg Airport will host the exhibition “Stille Momente” (Quiet Moments), which will be presented there from 4th March to 1st May 2013.
After being exhibited in Vienna, Schlierenzauer’s photographs will be moved into Hangar-7 in Salzburg, where 70 selected images by the Leica photographer will enhance the Flying Bulls’ home base and their historic fleet of aircraft, as well as encourage visitors to pause and reflect for a few peaceful moments.
The record-setting ski jumper will open his exhibition on 4th March, 48 hours after competing in the last World Championship event in Val di Fiemme. He will also appear live on the show “Sport und Talk im Hangar-7” at 21:15 on ServusTV.
The net proceeds from the sale of Schlierenzauer’s photographs will be donated to the Wings for Life foundation, which supports the search for a cure for spinal cord injuries.
The source of his passion:
Gregor Schlierenzauer began taking pictures three years ago, capturing images that caught his attention during his travels. Whenever he takes pictures, the 23-year-old world champion ski jumper is constantly on the lookout for “quiet moments”, as he calls them. This pursuit became a professional and increasingly more precise passion, which was first presented to the public in October 2010. His first exhibition was entitled “Snapshot”; it showed the moments he’d captured with a snapshot camera, which can also be perceived as a kind of diary of his life away from ski jumping.
In the meantime, Gregor has been accepted into Leica Camera AG’s Mentoring Programme and is now in possession of high-quality equipment.
For Gregor Schlierenzauer, photography is a valuable and incredibly important outlet. ”I can interact with each environment in my own creative way and totally unwind as I do so. Working with Leica offers me new perspectives and gives me an opportunity for further growth.“
Peter Coeln is the managing director of the WestLicht Gallery, a popular photography exhibition venue in Vienna that creates a symbiosis between photography and its equipment. The first of Gregor’s photographs that he saw were snapshots, which impressed him with their lightness. The charm of Gregor’s photographs lay in his ability to capture images that touched him without thinking about it. That was precisely what made his debut, ‘Snapshot’, such a success. He has learned to operate a Leica just as well as his previous cameras, using it with the same passion we know from his efforts as an athlete. Operating a Leica can be quite challenging, as Schlierenzauer freely admits. Peter Coeln has this to say about Gregor Schlierenzauer’s photographs: “He is now much more at ease when approaching his motifs – but he’s also approaching them with a lot more sensitivity and emotion.”
