Opening of the 16th HangART-7
"The Secret of England’s Greatness"
A VISIT FROM THE BRITISH ISLES: TWELVE UP AND COMING ARTISTS FROM ENGLAND WERE THE FOCUS OF THE OPENING OF THE HANGART-7 EXHIBITION ON 8 OCTOBER 2010.
When curator Lioba Reddeker had finished her opening speech and introduced the film portrait of the twelve invited English artists, expectations had already been raised among the guests. They were looking forward to seeing the most promising up and coming artists in one of the liveliest art scenes in the world. The fact that these expectations were about to be fulfilled soon became clear in the brief reports that followed showing the artists in their apartments and studios in London. Some of the visitors probably thought „typically British“, since there was plenty of English humor in the 20-minute film presenting the artists, who were also all present in person during the evening. And the humor was also there in the works that were then revealed to everyone. Over mint cocktails and roast beef sandwiches, many of the guests were unable to stifle a laugh when looking at the paintings or sculptures. The relaxed mood was enhanced by the LBB live band, whose quiet lounge music provided the perfect background to the elegantly relaxed atmosphere that never showed a hint of stiffness. In short – typically British.
