Opening of the 18th HangART-7
"A Dance"
"Prague doesn't let go... This little mother has claws", Franz Kafka once wrote to a friend. The spark of the fascination of the author's home city and of the country as a whole also leapt across, on 8 July 2011, to the visitors to HangART-7, the 18th part of which was dedicated to young artists from the Czech Republic.
Normally, exhibition premières are more about seeing and being seen than they are about the art itself. Well yes, the opening of HangART-7 in July offered that aspect too. But the "meet and greet" was just a prelude, not the actual purpose of being there. The reason for this was firstly, of course, the works of art, which, through their sheer breadth, threw a completely new light on the Czech Republic. But the attitude of the guests to the art itself was at least as important. Brief portraits on film of the eight artists present then illustrated the sources of inspiration and thoughts coursing through those creative minds and ensured that the works could be approached even by those who were not art experts. Finally, the band led by Diana Jirkuff cast an arc from easy listening jazz through soul to pop, creating a relaxed lounge mood in place of a classically stiff gallery atmosphere. Simply fascinating.
