Gabriella Cilmi has a mission. Hence the title of her forthcoming single: “On a Mission”. The Australian singer of Italian descent may have only celebrated her 18th birthday a few months ago, yet her brand new single and second album “Ten” prove once and for all that those who dismissed her as young and idealistic were wrong. “I’m not a girl any more. I grew up a long time ago and I’m ready to fight to get what I want.” She certainly proved this to fans at her Hangar-7 concert with her impressive voice (never mind her fantastic looks!) and her songs which always have a certain depth and complexity about them. The singer conquered the hearts of her large audience, which was soon enthusiastic about her new album “Ten” and her new single “On a mission”.
Gabriella Cilmi’s international breakthrough came with the mega-hit “Sweet About Me” which sold over 2 million copies worldwide, entering the top 10 in 16 countries and clocking up over 20 million hits on YouTube. The song spent 37 weeks in the UK charts and was recently announced as the most played song of 2009 there. Gabriella’s debut album “Lessons To Be Learned” (2008) reached the top 10 in over 10 countries and sold 1 million copies.
Gabriella shared a secret with us just before her concert at Hangar-7. When asked what the best way to prepare for a concert is, she replied: “Well, yesterday we had dance rehearsals late into the night and kept ourselves awake with Red Bull and coffee beans – a good mix, we found!”
