Without them, the disco sounds of the 1970s and 1980s would probably never have existed and the wedding celebration of Prince Charles and Lady Di wouldn’t have been have so glamorous: Hot Chocolate, the legendary funk and soul band, gave a guest performance at the Wednesday Night session at Hangar-7 on 21 January and certainly made their mark.
No doubt many guests were still humming their new interpretations of their greatest hits days after the concert, including ‘You sexy thing’, ‘Everyone’s a winner’, ‘So you win again’ and ‘No doubt about it’. This is due to both the quality of their world hit tunes and the band’s ability to re-invent their works. While many bands lose their original character with the addition of new band members, it seems instead that this is the secret to the eternal youth of Hot Chocolate.
While the weather outside became increasingly unpleasant, the musicians really heated things up inside – just like hot chocolate, but with a dash of chilli and pepper.
