Matthias Berger has followed his former boss Ondrej Kovar from Klagenfurt to Salzburg as deputy restaurant manager. This well-established team is ensuring that all staff members at the Restaurant Ikarus are as familiar with the guest chef menu as the chefs preparing it.
After finishing his studies at tourism college and following a trainee programme in England, the Graz-born manager returned to Schloss Lehenberg in Kitzbühl. At the Restaurant Schlossstern in Velden, he met his current colleague Ondrej Kovar as well as becoming familiar with the high standards of top quality gastronomy. The Restaurant Ikarus is a new experience for him. “It’s the Champions League. Except that the matches here take place every day and not every two weeks”. He adds: “It’s also much more than just a job; you have to love it and be completely passionate about it. The people who work here are enthusiasts in the true sense of the word. Hangers-on soon fall by the wayside”.
All of the employees are defined by their high level of professionalism. The important thing is for each of them to bring their own personality to the table: “We have a very international team. Everyone should contribute their own dialect, style, and charm. Our guests appreciate that”.
Matthias Berger stresses that he works in a very special environment: “We only use materials and products of the very highest quality. This requires respect. We want to get the very best out of them”. The further training of employees plays a key role in this. “Everyone should develop and progress. You never reach your own personal horizon; there is always something new. It’s good that way. And this is a feeling we want to share with our guests.
A restaurant which does not see the horizon as its limit – what could be more fitting for a hangar?!

Opening Hours Restaurant Ikarus
Daily, lunch 12:00 to 02:00 pm,
dinner 07:00 pm to 10:00 pm
In order to better facilitate the Ikarus kitchen's transition from one guest chef to the next, the restaurant will be closed for lunch the first day of every month.
However, evening opening hours on these days will remain the same: the restaurant will open at 07:00 pm.
