The book application for the iPad: “Ikarus” – Culinary Highflyers

At the 2010 Frankfurt Book Fair at the beginning of October, Red Bull Hangar-7 and Collection Rolf Heyne presented the first interactive, non-linear multimedia book application for the iPad: “Ikarus” – Culinary Highflyers.

Every year, twelve of the world‘s best cooks are invited by patron Eckart Witzigmann and Executive Chef Roland Trettl to present their cuisine for a month in the Ikarus restaurant. This guest chef concept is as visionary as it is unique – and allows guests to make a culinary world tour without the stress of traveling. Famous chefs visiting Hangar-7 in 2010 included Stefano Baiocco, Joan & Jordi Roca and Sergio Herman.

Every year, the Collection Rolf Heyne publishes the result of these globally unique culinary workshops as an exclusive illustrated book; this year, in cooperation with Red Bull Hangar-7, it will be appearing for the first time as a multimedia magic app, presenting exciting recipe creations in a new and exciting format with extraordinary photographs. In addition, the “Ikarus” – Culinary Highflyers app allows users not only to create entire meals, produce shopping lists, send recipes by e-mail and print them out for use in the kitchen. The app also designs menus and table cards, enables in-app purchasing of the illustrated books, presents the fascinating world of Hangar-7 and at the same time allows those who wish to book a table in the Ikarus restaurant to do so. Regular updates provide all users of the “Ikarus” – Culinary Highflyers app with the latest news from the Ikarus and the world of good taste.

The book “Culinary Highflyers 2010” is available to buy from bookshops since October 2010, costing 49.90 Euro. To take readers to the place where the action is, the cookery book also comes with a DVD full of fascinating clips showing Executive Chef Roland Trettl visiting the various home countries of his guest chefs.
