The mood of the otherwise very friendly ladies at Hangar-7’s front desk was going downhill fast. The young man simply refused to be sent away and he could not be convinced to just hand over his job application either. He remained stubborn and waited several hours. His perseverance paid off: Today, Tommy Eder-Dananic is one of two chefs at Restaurant Ikarus.
I would have walked to the ends of the earth for this job.
What does creativity in the kitchen mean to you?
Having your own style without copying anyone else. I’m glad I’ve worked with Jörg Bruch for the last twelve years, because he always comes up with crazy ideas. We are a brilliant team.
What makes a recipe a success?
For me, it just needs to taste unique.
If ten people cook the same dish, it will taste different each time, because each person has a different passion.
Do you like to cook at home?
Yes, very much. Almost every day. I love to share my passion with friends, family members and my greatest critic – my charming wife! We have a great deal of fun cooking together, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
What is your greatest talent?
My cheerful and open approach to people. Laughter is the best medicine. I've met the whole world in Hangar-7, and that is a priceless experience.
What is your definition of happiness?
To be healthy and to have a wonderful wife and family. That, thanks to my passion – cooking – I have found my dream job and get to travel around the culinary world every month with our guest chefs.
What do you do when you are not in the kitchen?
I go for walks with my dog, I go shopping, I play tennis and meet friends.

Stay just the way you are, do not let anyone change you, everyone is unique.
