Opening of the 17th HangART-7
"In dark woods"
A country in a state of constant flux: At the opening of the 17th HangART-7 exhibition on 25 February, eight young artists showed that the standing of the visual arts in Poland has improved considerably in recent years.
The guests were clearly curious: What are the current trends and developments among Polish artists? What can we expect of the mysteriously fairy-tale theme of "In Dark Woods"? How does the checkered past of a country like Poland affect the thoughts and artistic expression of the younger generation?
These were questions that curator Lioba Reddeker covered in her opening speech: She referred to the many changes that Poland had experienced in its recent history and pointed out that these should be regarded as a great challenge for up-and-coming artists. Having been prepared thematically, the scores of visitors crowded around the works, full of curiosity. If the lively debates were an indication of the pleasure of the viewers, the works exhibited by three women and five men were very well received.
The right mood was also created, of course, by the LBB led by the charismatic singer Wolfgang Übl. The tasteful mixture of trendy lounge music, soulful grooves and a hint of jazz showed off the musicians' talent for improvisation – and even got one or two guests onto the dance floor.
