HangART-7 Edition 9: Switzerland
"…from a picturesque country"
shows the works of ten young artists (eight women and two men) from Switzerland.
The title of the exhibition “…from a picturesque country” quite consciously banks on the analysis of clichés – for example that of the apparently ideal mountain landscapes – and on the fact that this subject continues to interest a young generation of artists.
However, the view would be illegitimately reduced, if the exhibition limited itself to landscape painting. The traditional techniques such as painting and drawing are being carefully explored and productively applied by young artists both thematically and formally.
The technical spectrum ranges from watercolour, oils, acrylics, glazed or impasto techniques and alla prima painting to drawing and mixed techniques. Often the intensive analysis of classical painting is recognisable in the works. What is striking is the use of meticulously perfected techniques and their reinterpretation and redefinition.
Works are being shown by:
Anaïs Gumy (*1983), Georgine Ingold (*1965), Olaf Quantius (*1971), Thomas Hauri (*1974), Andrea Muheim (*1968), Monika Ruckstuhl (*1965), Klodin Erb (*1963), Lena Eriksson (*1971), Karin Schwarzbek (*1969), Indra (*1977).
